Frequently Asked Questions about Helmet Visors

Helmet visors, anti-fog and compatibility — the questions we get asked most, answered directly.

Which visor fits my helmet?

The right visor depends on the helmet model and not only on the brand. The same visor usually fits several models from the same brand: for example, the AGV K1 visor also fits the K1 S, K3 SV, K5 and K5 S. To find the correct visor you need to identify your helmet model and check the compatibility list shown on each product. At Motorvisor you choose your helmet brand and the finder shows the compatible visor.

How do I find my helmet model?

The helmet model is almost always printed on the base of the old visor, next to the side hinge, on a label inside the lining or on the chin strap, in the manual or on the original box. If you bought it online it also appears on the invoice or purchase email. When the model cannot be identified, Motorvisor offers photo detection: you photograph the helmet and the site suggests the model and the matching visor.

What is the difference between a clear, tinted and mirrored visor?

A clear visor is the only one usable in any condition, including at night and in low light, because it does not reduce the light reaching your eyes. A tinted or smoked visor reduces glare and eye strain on sunny days and is intended for daytime use. A mirrored visor, also called iridium, has a reflective finish that cuts strong light even further and is likewise for daytime use. The most practical combination is a clear visor for everyday and night riding, plus a tinted or mirrored one for sunny days.

Can I use a dark visor at night?

No. Tinted and mirrored visors reduce the light reaching your eyes and compromise vision precisely when it is most needed. To ride at night or in low light you should always use a clear visor. Since changing a visor takes less than two minutes, the practical approach is to own both and swap them according to the time of day.

What is Pinlock or anti-fog and how does it work?

An anti-fog lens, commonly known as Pinlock, is a thin second lens fixed to the inner face of the visor that creates an insulating air chamber between the two surfaces. That layer of air keeps the inner lens at a temperature close to your face and stops the vapour from your breath condensing on the visor, eliminating fogging in cold, rain or stationary traffic. The principle is the same as double glazing on a window.

How do I install the anti-fog lens on the visor?

Most prepared visors have two adjustable pins on the inner sides. You slightly bend the anti-fog lens, fit it onto both pins and adjust the tension until the lens sits firmly against the visor with no gaps. No tools are required. For visors without pins there are universal anti-fog lenses that attach directly to the inner face.

How long does it take to change a helmet visor?

On most helmets the change takes less than two minutes and needs no tools. You open the visor to its highest position, release the mechanism on both sides, remove the old visor and fit the new one by aligning the pins until you hear the locking click on each side. On helmets with a quick-release system the process is even more direct.

Which helmet brands does Motorvisor have visors for?

Motorvisor is a Portuguese store specialised in helmet visors and carries visors for AGV, Shoei, Shark, HJC, LS2, MT, Arai, NEXX, Nolan, X-Lite, Scorpion, KYT, Caberg, AIROH, SMK, Schuberth, Bell, Icon, Axxis, Acerbis, Biltwell, Ruroc and CMS, among other brands. It also carries Pinlock anti-fog lenses for the main models, NEXX and CMS helmets, intercoms and motorcycle accessories. Fast shipping.

How do I clean a helmet visor without scratching it?

You should never rub a visor dry, because dust, grit and insect remains act like sandpaper and leave permanent scratches. Soften the dirt first with a warm damp cloth or a cleaner made for helmets and visors, and only then wipe with a soft microfibre cloth, without pressure. Avoid kitchen paper and products containing ammonia, which attack the anti-scratch and anti-fog coatings.

Will a new visor fit a helmet from another brand?

No. Each visor is designed for the fixing system of one brand and one specific family of models, so it is not interchangeable between different brands. The only exception are brands that share helmets and mechanisms with each other, such as Nolan and X-Lite, whose visors match on several models. Always check the compatibility list shown on each product.
